Frameless Library Ideas and Information Exchange

This blog is designed for users of the new Frameless Library to offer new enhancment ideas, feedback on current formats, suggestions and general input to future development of the Frameless Library.  As this is an ongoing project, we really want to know the things that will make your jobs easier, even if it makes ours harder.

We have many goals set for future releases, but what you need now is our priority.  Some things we want to know are

A.  Ease of navigation to find what you want.

B.  Variety of selections for quick setup and change

C.  Quality of help text and pictures

D.  Ideas for the future.

E.  Identify new trends in techniques and hardware.

I will monitor this Blog for your feedback and will provide information on status and results of idea considerations as best I can.  I am looking forward to many peoples participation.  No question or idea is a stupd one, so fire away.  What can we help you build tomorrow?

In Version 8 of the frameless library, we addeda new twist to an old Insert.  In the older libraries, there was an isert for casters.  We modified this insert to add a full panel plate to attach any cabinet to as an options.  The casters get machined into this plate which is banded all four sides and has its own material pointer.

This allows you to use any product and make it a roll around unit.  Dont forget, all cabinets have finish back and finish top options.

I am nearing completion on tweaking our company frameless library.  Some of the things I've added could be of use to other cabinet manufactures as well.

Prompts for common internal accessories like trash pullouts (both single and double) have mine set up so that if either is chosen the stretcher goes away and a fixed shelf replaces it.  Drawer dividers (for pans/lids) with a subassembly for the parts required.  Utensil drawers, lazy susans, glass shelves(the later changes my material for adjustable shelves along with the shelf clips if chosen)

Prompt for glass door which when chosen also prompts for the dimension of the stile of the door which in turn calls out the specific glass size I need to order within the subassembly for the door

Finish interior prompt used to change all cabinet materials for those customers with deep pockets and/or glass door applications

I believe most of the rest I have added have already been put into the newest beta release of frameless library.  like adjustments to hinge location, pull/knob locations, extending door size up and/or down, applied door molding....

At the IWF show, I made the rounds to the hardware vendors to try and get as many 3D drawings of products as I could.  The reception was less than ideal.  You would think these guys are protecting nuclear secrets or something, they just dont want to give them up.

My goal is to give users as much information as I can, as well as graphic information.  So far, Blum has been the only company to give us total access to everything for grapics.  In return, we have made them available in the new frameless library.

We plan on making huge gains in the kitchen cabinet market, therefore, the more hardware drawings we get, the better your drawings will get.

I think it will be up to you, the buyers of hardware to start pressing vendors to make these drawings available to us and yourselves.  Guess we need some squeaky wheels out there to get the oil going.

One bit of good news, we did make an arrangement with one vendor on Rollout hardware and will be working on preparing these items for distrubution as time permits.

If you have any 3D hardware drawings of specialty items, feel free to offer trades with yours truly.

Currently, we are adding "Product Splitters" to the library.  What the splitters will do is allow you, the user, to break up the inside of a cabinet into sections.  The Horizontal splitter for example, will inject Divisions into the space you allocate using pick points on your drawing.  You tell it how many spaces are to be made in the allocated space.

Once the spaces are set, you can access prompts then populate the openings with items such as shelves, doors, drawers on the fly.  You can see an example of splitters in the existing combo library or viewing this power point presentation made by Lenny.  forums.microvellum.com/.../entry8533.aspx

Craig, Just a quick note in the new Advanced Library the 2 Door 1 Drawer Base has #NAME? errors for the adjustable shelves and the Shelf Standards, they reference Division Qty and Adj. Shelf Rows, also it doesn't draw the wall fillers. Also is there anyway that the programmers could get the cabinets to come in on there respective layers in plan view (ie.Base Cabinets on the 2D base layer,Uppers on the 2D Upper layer etc.?

The door drawer items have been fixed in the master build, thanks for the feedback.  I am sure development is seeing these blogs and making a list.

Perhaps we could add a KV 8400 drawer slide as an option for file drawers or for all drawers for that matter.

Thanks
