    Got Computer Specs?

I run Windows Xp Profession 64-bit with an AMB Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor that runs at 2.2GHz with 2GB of Ram 80GBHard drive and 512MB ATI Radeon X1600 Pro video card with a High-definition 22" LCD widescreen.

Also my mouse has eleven buttons, can you say overkill?

    Re: Got Computer Specs?

I called customer support on what specs to look for on a computer and they told me "Vista runs fine with MV and not to get a 64 bit processor". Have you had any problems with your computer running MV OK. They told me that "if I bought a 64 bit computer, that I would have a nice new computer that would not run their software" In my search for computers I was told by a computer sales geek that a 64 bit processor would revert back to 32 bit and would run any software just fine. I am confused what should I get.

    Re: Got Computer Specs?

I'm running Windows XP Pro with Dual Pentium D 3.0 GHz processors and 4GB RAM on a 160 GB Hard Drive and a 128MB NVIDIA Quadro FX 1300 on dual 20" LCD widescreens.  I had the Radeon X1600 Pro, but apparently when you put one of those in a Dell it has problems with the dual monitors.

Oh, and I'm afraid my mouse only has the typical 3 buttons.

This enough for a new leader?

Cool [H] Re: Got Computer Specs?

Cool I am running Oper. Sys. Microsoft Windows XP Professional. Dell Precision PWS 390 iNTELL(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86Hz

    With a HEMI 6.0 Ltr V-8. Dual Overhead 20" LCD's and a 5 Button wireless Mouse, And goes 0-60 in 2.5 sec.

This seem's to be good enough to handle MV.

So kick the tire's and light the fire's.

64 bit has caused me nothing but troubles.  It's a nice feature to have except that nonje of the software I use is 64bit.  I dont have any problems using 32bit software, but what happens is that it creates TWO Program Files folders so you have to direct everything to the right path instead of default ways.  AutoCAD and MV work fine.  I wouldn't recommend 64bit, no one is writting software to become compatible its all going towards Vista.

    Re: Got Computer Specs?

All new processors are 64bit these days.  But they can do 32bit calculations.  Like someone already said, the problem arises in the programs.  Don't get Vista 64bit.  I think Vista 32bit should be just fine

    Re: Got Computer Specs?

Wanna Drool over video cards.  One thing I can tell you, ATI continually gets bashed in the AutoCAD forums, so I went BFG NVIDIA 8800 756MB GDDR3 HDCP Enabled  Memory clock 1800MZ

I hooked  22" Hp and a 24" Samsung monitors and let me tell you, WOW  Everything moves so smoothly.  This runs on a 2.6GH Intel Xeon with 3GB Ram .

My Laptop is a Alienware Dual Core AMD 2.4GZ With a Geoforce 6800 Video card and is built like a tank.  Sucks a battery dry in about 15 minutes trying to keep cool.  I run a Raid Array dual hard drives but need more than the 1GB ram.

That's pretty serious.  Craig you surely get the First place Award!  Cool  My ATI doesn't seem to have any problems thus far, it runs great on AutoCAD althought my first choice of vcard was the NVIDA but it was about $800 so I had to turn her down :(

One thing is sure, I love fast computers

Haha, i can imagine. We've got several UPS's running just to keep our network from power outages or surges.  My computer isn't godly enough yet to require 15+ fans but I remember when I build my first AMD Athlon Xp 64+ a few years back, I had added 8 fans.  Lot of stuff going on just for a gaming pc :)

    Re: Got Computer Specs?

I am running a Dell XPS Laptop Dual core witha 2.33Ghz overclocked to 3.16 (yes overclocked on a laptop!!  With no problems I might add), 4GB of Dual Channel Ram, Vista Ultimate 32 bit and a Nvidia GeForce Go 7950 GTX with 512MB of onboard memory, gigabit lan and a 200GB 7200rpm harddrive.  Dual monitors to come shortly.  This thing flys through the applications, loads ACAD and toolbox in about 7 seconds.  Still takes a while for cabinets to be processed although it cuts it down to about 10 seconds a cabinet....coding issue in my mind.  Can't wait to get my hand on 6.5 and really see what she can do!!  Just a two button mouse with scroll wheel, I prefer the keyboard shorcuts anyway.

On a side note the other laptop we are running has XP Pro 64bit with no problems....at least with ACAD and MV.

    Re: Got Computer Specs?

That sounds like a mean system olanderd.  However I wouldn't recommend 64-bit processors to anyone in the future. Yes you can run all 32bit software with out problems, it just creates file path issues and also there are not many programs out there that use 64 bit capability so it's seems like overkill.  I know I've had nothing but one inconvience after another with my XP Pro 64-bit.

Prepare to be stunned. Here's the specs on our new machine:

    MacBook Pro
    2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2GB Memory
    160GB Hard Drive
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor with dual-link DVI support and 256MB of GDDR3 SDRAM
    17" High-resolution Widescreen display
    Airport Extreme Wi-Fi wireless networking
Bluetooth 2.0 EDR (Enhanced Data Rate)
    and 8x slot-loading SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)

(OK, so no Blu-Ray. That's what the Playstation 3 is for)

Partitioned the Hard Drive using Apple's Boot Camp Public Beta and installed Windows XP with no coughs, hiccoughs or chokes. Proceeded to install AutoCAD 2008 and Microvellum Version 6.

And everything runs beautifully. The hardest part was having to shell out $80 for Windows XP  Tongue Tied
