    autoclosing drawing1.dwg

On 1 system if we start up autocad it automatically opens up drawing1.dwg, then when we open a new file, it automatically closes drawing1.dwg. If we do the same thing on another workstation, drawing1.dwg does NOT automatically shut down when opening a new drawing. What is the Autocad setting that is making this happen?

I'm digging in the autodesk forums to find an answer to your question. This is the most relevant post I have found so far

    But I'm still looking

Thats a new feature, working on multiple documents with only one AutoCAD
session open. If you want AutoCAD to close the current drawing when you open
a new one (like R14 did) then set system variable SDI to 1 or
Tools>Options>System Tab, place a check mark in front of Single-drawing
    compatibility mode under General Options.

    O.K......

It appears that this problem could  be Auto cad version related. Knowing whether or not the two workstations are running the same version will rule some stuff out.  The other thing I saw was a system variable listed in the above post.  Lastly, the acad.lisp file that is loaded into the first drawing (or all, depending on yet another sys. variable) could be making unseen changes to "drawing" making auto cad think that you probably don't want to auto close "drawing". If this is the case, it can be remedied by altering the acad.lsp file via instructions in my first reply.

    Hope this helps,

We are both running ACAD2008 and both are running the same version of MV.

Well, we are having the opposite problem as the person in the post. We don't want drawing1 to close and it is. I think we are both running the same acad2008.lsp and acad.lsp files so I don't think either of those are causing the difference.

did you check the system variable "SDl" ? According to what I read in the forums, this could also cause the drawing to close.  If thats not it, then I would reccomend a more thorough search through autodesk's forums.

    Re: autoclosing drawing1.dwg

Yes, thanks for your help. We both have the same setting for SDI. I've searched through the autodesk forums and everyone is having the opposite issue. They WANT drawing1 to automatically close, whereas my user DOES NOT want it to automatically close. It must be that on my PC the acaddoc.lsp file is making a change to drawing1, whereas on his it is not. Therefore mine won't close but his will. I'll have to look at our 2 files and see what is different. Thanks again for your help.

    No prob.

I'm curious about this one....If you don't mind I would like to know how it gets resolved. (unless it gets buried under other stuff to do) please post the fix.

    Thanks,
