Re: 'L'-shaped countertops - Product Tags

I am in the process of making a similar template for MV, but I am including isometric views.  I like the idea of the product item number on the elevation view.  That's how it is on my current drawings.  I have created 2D plan instrutctions (prompt drawing tokens) to the product so that MV do most of the dimensioning in the plan view, which will make them dynamic.  MV dimensions the products in the elevation view.  I've also had to add my own details to the plan view (kick lines, door and door swing,...) as MV provides little details in plan view.  I do the same for the sections.  My goal is to have MV do about 90-95% of the work.  I would say that I'm pretty close.  The only major issue left is with corner products as details are not shown on both elevations.

MV is great at creating custiom products, but it lacks detailing for shop drawings "right out of the box".  We submit all our shop drawings for approval.  Fortunately, MV does provide the ability to add details.

Where can you manipulate the drawing origins for item numbers?

I don't believe you can change the drawing origins for item numbers on a per prodcut basis.

However, you can change the "item numbers" file - it is called "ItemSymbol3D.dwg", located in your UserFiles folder.  It is a simple AutoCAD file.  We rotated our item number tag 90 degrees "up" (from the right side view) so that it can be used in the Elevation drawings, then moved it up 18" and forward 16".  All from the 0,0,0 point, of course.  This places the tag up and in front of 90% of our products. Smile

Play around with it and find your best settings. t's immediate, so save the file, open one of your MV drawings and re-draw a product.

If there's a way to place the tag on a per-product basis, I'd love to know about it!  Big Smile

    WM,

Excellent tip!!  I went one step further instead of rotating the tag 90 degrees, I rotated it 45 degrees.  This way it is visible in the elevation as well as the plan view.  The numbers are a little scrunched but still very visible.
