Check out the middle of the first post in this thread: http://forums.microvellum.com/forums/t/1777.aspx  It's my Favorite.......and it's been out for years. You want to get the most out of your mouse without complicating things to the point where you cancel out the purpose in getting it.  This mouse takes you to that threshold.....but not beyond.

There are a lot of "left hand"  devices (used in conjunction with your mouse) out there with 32+ programmable buttons and keys hat I have tried, but nothing compares to the Logitech Media Play Cordless mouse, a well set up .pgp file, and the good old fashioned keyboard.

The other reasons I recommend this mouse are because of the amount of programmable buttons, what they can be programmed to do, it's ergonomic, & it works well on multiple surfaces up to 12+ feet from receiver. You will find other mice with lot's of buttons, but not all of them will allow you to program those buttons to be "esc" or other desired keys.  The "Set point" software is very flexible in letting you customize things.  There are 8 programmable buttons,1 default scroll,  and 5 media control buttons that are fixed.

Personally, I use a Logitech gaming mouse.  With the ability to control the pointer speed right on the mouse, and to be able to progam the other buttons to do any simple commands.  I find it uneccessary to mess with my .pgp file.  I really haven't messed with a .pgp file since AutoCAD R13.  I don't like cordless mice, only due to the charging or battery situation.
