    I broke my reports

Ok, I need a little help getting my reports back in order. Here's what was done:

I saw various versions of Crystal Reports in the Downloads section here, and thought "Oh cool! New versions. I'll check 'em out" We've been using the default v8.5 reports, so I downloaded the v9 package for comparison. I made a backup copy of the v8.5 reports, dropped the v9 reports into my Microvellum Template folder, and in the Microvellum Configuration screen changed my printing options from "Use Crystal 8.5" to "Use Crystal 9." Should be simple, right?

Apparently there's more to it than that, thou I'm not exactly sure what. I got errors and a blank print preview screen when I processed job reports. Huh? Oh well, I put the old v8.5 reports back into the template folder and switched the printing options back to reflect, and everything seemed to be working as it had been. But...

After thinking my reports problem was resolved, I downloaded and installed Microvellum Beta v65. I'm getting errors and blank print preview screens again. I noticed that v65 creates a whole new set of template files within it's library folder. Are these duplicates of what I was using? -or new Report files? If so, what version? How do I get 'em to work?

I'm thinking that now I should just download the Crystal Reports v8.5 Complete Package and dump it into every template folder I find (old library + new library)... or something . Haven't done so yet. Wouldn't it be the same difference if I took the .RPT files from a non-tampered with copy of Microvellum and dropped them on my computer? Advice?

p.s. Is it OK if the v65 Library has spaces in the folder name? I remember that the .ini file should NOT have any spaces (correct me if I'm wrong), but didn't know if it mattered with the folder itself...

p.p.s. If someone cares to explain all the steps necessary in replacing/updating your .RPT files, that would be fantastic. I know I'm not the only one who's done something like this, but I couldn't find any information about this anywhere (Forums, User Manual, etc.). Or maybe I am the first to goof it up, but at least those after me can avoid making the same mistakes Geeked

    Seyon,

It sounds like when you went to 65 beta, that the Crystal Reports engine was updated to Ver 9-11.5, to test this, place those new reports back into a template folder and switch your options to use Ver 9 or Higher, and run a report. If your are still using the 8.5 engine, when you go to print reports, nothing happens. Let us know.

    Re: I broke my reports

I tested out a few things. I placed the Crystal Reports v9 in my template folder, switched my options, and ran a report. Nothing happened.

This led me to believe I am still using the 8.5 engine. So I put a fresh copy of all the 8.5 reports in my template, switched the options back, and ran a report. 2 different things happened: 1) When I processed reports from the spreadsheet (after exporting products) the reports showed up fine. But 2) When I processed reports from drawing, I got a series of errors (Database error: Error Opening File) that finally ended with "File not found"

It seems to work if I do it from the spreadsheet, and that's fine with me.

I received a PDF from another user with instructions on switching to Crystal 9. Is it suggested that I use something other than Crystal 8.5? What version is everyone else using? (Not that I particularly care to keep fussing with this now that it's working again, but I am curious what the difference between the two is)

I'll copy the info from that file into the next post, since I can't upload the PDF here.

    Report Viewer Blank Screen-no errors.doc

When trying to preview the reports using the Crystal Reports version 9 or newer format reports and printing option,
there is a blank screen, no errors, nothing happens.

Verify that the reports are actually Crystal Reports version 9 or newer, and that the “Tools --> Options --> General
--> Printing Option” is set to “Use Crystal 9,” or “Use Crystal 11.”

Have the customer download three files from our web site from the hyperlinks below:
    www.microvellum.com/download/2_0.zip
    www.microvellum.com/download/Report_Designer_Component.zip
    www.microvellum.com/download/CR_version_9_reg.zip

Delete the following files from the specified paths, if they exist there:
    C:\Windows\System32\crviewer9.dll
    C:\Windows\System32\craxdrt9.dll

Create two folders with the following paths:
    "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Crystal Decisions\"
    "C:\Program Files\Crystal Decisions\"

Extract the contents of the file named "2_0.zip" to the path "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Crystal Decisions\"
Extract the file named "Report_Designer_Component.zip" to the path "C:\Program Files\Crystal Decisions\"
Extract the file named “CR version 9 reg.zip” to the path “C:\”

Register the following files with “Microsoft Register Server.” Make sure to follow the order specified below, and
also verify that each file registered generates the confirmation message “DllRegisterServer xxxxx succeeded”

    1.) "C:\Windows\System32\dao360.dll"
    2.) "C:\Windows\System32\atl.dll"
    3.) "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Crystal Decisions\2.0\bin\crqe.dll"
    4.) "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Crystal Decisions\2.0\bin\keycode.dll"
    5.) “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Crystal Decisions\2.0\crystalreportviewers\ActiveXViewer\crviewer9.dll”
    6.) “C:\Program Files\Crystal Decisions\Report Designer Component\craxdrt9.dll”

When trying to preview the reports, there will probably now be an error message: "Invalid TLV Record" - even
when the "Use Crystal 9" or "Use Crystal 11" printing option is selected. Using the registry editor program
"Regedit" import the registry file named "CR version 9.reg".

Click the “Start” button, click “Run” and enter “regedit” in the drop-down list box. Once the “Registry Editor” is
open, click the menu command “File --> Import” and navigate to the “C:\” root folder, select the file named “CR
    version 9.reg“ and click “Open.“

    Re: I broke my reports

For anyone who needs to go through the steps of registering the .dll's mentioned above, a simplified way of doing this to go Start-->Run( or Winkey+R) and paste the line items below into the run dialog box and say OK. As stated above make sure you get the confirmation message “DllRegisterServer xxxxx succeeded”

    Regsvr32 "C:\WINDOWS\system32\dao360.dll"

    Regsvr32 "C:\WINDOWS\system32\atl.dll"

    Regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Crystal Decisions\2.0\bin\crqe.dll"

    Regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Crystal Decisions\2.0\bin\keycode.dll"

    Regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Crystal Decisions\2.0\crystalreportviewers\ActiveXViewer\crviewer9.dll"

    Regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Crystal Decisions\Report Designer Component\craxdrt9.dll"
